G77 AND CHINA CHAIRMANSHIP
President Csaba Kőrösi will this afternoon address the handover of the Chairmanship of the G77 and China, from Pakistan to Cuba.
That’s at 3PM in the Trusteeship.
Ahead of that event, the President met with the Foreign Minister of Cuba, Mr. Bruno Rodrigez Parilla this morning, in the context of the handover.
COLOMBIA
Also today, President Kőrösi will meet with Colombia’s Vice-President Francia Márquez and Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva.
Vice-President Márquez had addressed the Security Council yesterday. Their discussion today will touch on her address and the transformative concept of “total peace”, as well as topics of gender, climate change and water management, among other issues.
ECUADOR
This afternoon, President Kőrösi will meet with the Foreign Minister of Ecuador, Juan Carlos Holguin.
The meeting provides an opportunity to discuss Ecuador’s membership of the Security Council, its priorities for the remainder of the 77th session as well as the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
JAPAN
Turning to the Presidency of the Security Council…
President Kőrösi met with Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi of Japan.
They discussed Security Council reform and the revitalization of the General Assembly.
YOUTH FELLOWS
On the issue of the President’s Fellowship programs.
The six young diplomats from Armenia, Botswana, Cuba, the Maldives, Rwanda and Samoa, will arrive in New York next week.
The Fellowship is one of the topics that the President will discuss today, in a meeting with Ignazio Cassis, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland.
BILATERALS
In terms of what else is on the President’s agenda…
On water and climate issues, President Kőrösi today meets with the Special Envoy of the President of Tajikistan on water and climate issues; Sulton Rahimzoda
He will also meet with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC); Mirjana Spoljaric.
MODEL UN
This evening, President Kőrösi will speak to some 600 high school students at the Columbia Model United Nations Conference and Exposition.
I will share his remarks once given.
