Statement attributable to Csaba Kőrösi, President of the 77th session of the General Assembly
WMO’s State of Global Water Resources report
I welcome the first State of Global Water Resources published by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on 29 November 2022.
The report fills an important knowledge gap, supporting the assessment of effects of climate, environmental and societal change on the Earth’s water resources.
It confirms that the conception and sustainable implementation of resilient food and energy systems is possible based on informed scientific analysis.
Knowing how much water is available where and when is key to water security as well as a catalyzer of cooperation.
Continuing the report will – over the coming years – provide both support for operational management of food, energy and land use systems, as well as invaluable baseline information for responding to and preempting mid- to long-term climate change impact.
I am pleased that the realization of our motto for the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, “Solutions through Solidarity, Sustainability and Science”, has received yet another boost.
