SIERRA LEONE/RESOLUTION
The General Assembly is today expected to take action on a draft resolution that would create a new day.
From this year on, 18 November would be known as the World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence.
The resolution was co-sponsored by Sierra Leone. The First Lady, Fatima Maada Bio, will speak at the GA stakeout at around 1:15PM, following expected adoption of the draft resolution.
GA REVITALIZATION
Member States are this morning meeting on ways to revitalize the General Assembly.
President Csaba Kőrösi opened his remarks by asking – Crisis management and transformation are urgently needed. The question is, are we up to that dual challenge?
No, not yet, he said.
He listed one way that he introduced changes.
For example, using the General Committee to coordinate and streamline the various processed mandated by the General Assembly. The first informal meeting was held recently. This is an opportunity for all Member States to know what is happening, against what timelines and cut down on some of the repetition in the agenda items.
The President stressed that the work of the GA should help focus more on the most burning issues, become more impact-oriented and more able to reach concrete solutions relevant to the world. For that, solidarity and science-based decision shaping could be used

BILATERALS
Turning to bilaterals…
The President met virtually this morning with H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, the State Councilor and Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China.
The President highlighted the importance of global solidarity in addressing common challenges like climate change, water-related disasters, and biodiversity loss.
He called on all Member States to scale up political will and investment at the COP27 on climate, and at COP15 next month on Biodiversity, as well as the construction of a global water information system.
This afternoon, the President will meet with the Chair of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), Mr. Takeshi Hikihara. The meeting is expected to focus on cooperation between the CCPCJ and the General Assembly.
The President will also meet today with the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology, Amandeep Singh Gill
QUESTIONS
The Spokesperson was asked for more details on the bilateral with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, such as whether Ukraine was discussed. The Spokesperson noted that the meeting focused on the relationship between climate change, biodiversity and water.
