NOON BRIEFING HIGHLIGHTS

Spokesperson for General Assembly President Csaba Kőrösi
United Nations Headquarters, New York

Tuesday, 18 October 2022

ICRT

Tomorrow, the General Assembly will hold a debate on the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals.

The basis is a report that was submitted at the end of July.

The report looks at the activities of the Mechanism from 1 July 2021 through 30 June of this year.

This is the 10th year of operations for the Mechanism.

The President of the Mechanism is Judge Graciela Gatti Santana. She was appointed in June of this year. Judge Gatti Santa and President Csaba Kőrösi met last week, to discuss tomorrow’s debate.

BILATERALS

In terms of President Kőrösi’s bilaterals today, he met with Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the Under Secretary-General for Peace Operations. They discussed cross cutting issues related to peacekeeping in the Main Committees of the GA.

He also met today with Assistant Secretary-General and CEO of the United Nations Global Compact. That’s Ms. Sanda Ojiambo.

Later today, President Kőrösi will meet with Ambassador Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta, the Permanent Representative of Cuba. The General Assembly will hold the annual meeting to debate the US embargo against Cuba in early November.

YOUTH FELLOWSHIP

I had mentioned to you last week that nominations are underway for the next group of young fellows. This is for the President of the General Assembly Fellowship Programme.

There is a dedicated webpage on the Fellowship now available on the OPGA website. I’ll share that link: PGA’s Fellowship Programme | General Assembly of the United Nations
