2008 REGIONAL CONSULTATIONS ON ECOSOC ANNUAL MINISTERIAL REVIEW
A regional meeting on the theme "Sustainable Urbanization" was held on 1-2 June in Manama , Kingdom of Bahrain . Hosted by the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and organized in cooperation with the UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), the meeting was part of the preparatory process for the 2008 Annual Ministerial Review (AMR).
Participants examined a variety of topics, including urban infrastructure and access to services, green architecture for sustainable urbanization, and financing (including through Islamic banking) and technology transfer for sustainable development. The event also featured presentations by governments, civil society and the private sector of best practices, partnerships and new initiatives to ensure sustainable urbanization.
