Regional Preparatory Meeting for Africa on “Innovation for Sustainable Development”, 14 March, 2013, Dar es Salaam

A regional preparatory meeting on the theme “Innovation for sustainable development”, was held on 14 March 2013, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The meeting was organized in preparation for the 2013 Annual Ministerial Review of the UN Economic and Social Council, to be held in Geneva in July 2013, on the theme: “Science, technology and innovation, and the potential of culture, for promoting sustainable development and achieving the Millennium Development Goals”. It was hosted by the Government of Tanzania in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA). 

The meeting brought together policy makers in the STI and sustainable development sectors from the countries in the region, representatives of local governments, multilateral institutions, key donors, civil society and the private sector, to identify trends and challenges in regards to fostering innovation for sustainable development in the region.
