
Al Farabi Kazakh National University reinforces commitment towards global citizenship
11 June 2018 - United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) member institution Al Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU), in partnership with the Almaty Cluster Office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO Almaty), has designed and implemented a course on Globalization and Global Citizenship.

Connections between educational institutions and the SDGs discussed with civil society
The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) recently had an opportunity to present to the NGO Committee on Sustainable Development-NY (NGOCSD-NY) its work with academic institutions in promoting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The NGOCSD-NY monitors the implementation of commitments and agreements related to sustainable development. Recently, the NGOCSD-NY launched the SDGs Education Alliance to promote the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into all levels of education.

Forecast of the World Economy featured in new UN report
29 May 2018 - The Economic Analysis and Policy Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) launched this month the World Economic Situation and Prospects as of mid-2018.
According to the study, short-term prospects for the world economy have continued to improve, the world gross product is expected to expand by at least 3.2% and the world trade growth has been accelerated.
However there are some areas are of concern such as rising geopolitical and trade tensions as well as increased uncertainty over monetary policies in developed economies. Plus, some countries and regions face various challenges.
The relationship between these numbers and the risks for developing countries and potential impacts on the Sustainable Development Goals, are also featured in the report, which states that stronger economic growth in itself is not sufficient.

Role of universities in global citizenship addressed during seminar at UN Headquarters
With the collaboration of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) member institution Al Farabi Kzakh National University (KazNU) co-organized the event entitled Educating younger generations on global citizenship through intercultural literacy that recently took place at United Nations Headquarters in New York. United Nations projects an increase in the world's urban population
17 May 2018 - The Population Division of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) launched yesterday the 2018 Revision of World Urbanization Prospects.
The study observes that future increases in the size of the world's urban population are expected to be highly concentrated in just a few countries.
Moreover, the report highlights that today 55% of the world's population lives in urban areas, a proportion that is expected to increase to 68% by 2050.
It is also shown that by 2030, the world is projected to have 43 megacities with more than 10 million inhabitants, most of them in developing regions.
These studies have been issued regularly since 1988 with revised estimates and projections of the urban and rural populations for all countries of the world, and of their major urban agglomerations.

On Chinese Language Day: Education in China and the SDGs
Multilingualism is considered by the United Nations as a key to accomplish its aims and purposes and to improve communication and understanding among peoples.
14 May 2018 - A panel discussion on Education in China and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals took place at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 20 April 2018 with the participation of Chinese scholars as well as representatives of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in New York.

The importance of academia for achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is crucial, as shown by the activities and initiatives undertaken by member institutions of the United Nations Nations Academic Impact (UNAI).
11 May 2018 - The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) hosted a seminar on 10 April 2018 at United Nations Headquarters in New York that addressed partnerships in the state of Kerala, India between educational institutions and local governments in support of sustainable development. The seminar focused on meeting the essential needs of the most vulnerable and marginalized communities.

Global security challenges discussed at Model UN hosted by Al Farabi Kazakh National University

CTAUN Conference focused on the protection of children
10 May 2018 - The Committee on Teaching About the United Nations (CTAUN)—a long-time partner of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) initiative—held its 19th Annual Conference last month at United Nations Headquarters in New York. Over 600 educators from the United States and other countries took part in the meeting.
The mission of CTAUN is to provide educators with opportunities to learn about the United Nations and support them in incorporating global awareness into curricula and school activities.
