2 October 2018 Waseda University (Japan), a member institution of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), and in particular its Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, to celebrate its 20th anniversary is organizing the Symposium Dynamics of Integration and Division in the Asia-Pacific that will happen on 12 October 2018. The event aims to simultaneously reflect on lessons learned about the region and consider the challenges that lie ahead. To that end, the symposium's theme is based on the myriad challenges that directly confront international order.

In particular, the challenges within the Asia-Pacific, the developments and problems that divide and unify the region are likely to be central concerns that define the region in the years to come. By taking a broad view and bringing together leading scholars from a wide variety of disciplinary, professional, and intellectual backgrounds, Waseda University will take the opportunity to consider how the research and training provided by the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies has made a difference as well as how it can continue to make important contributions in the future.

The event will take place at the Ibuka Masaru Memorial Hall, International Conference Centre, Waseda University. Ong Keng Yong, former Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), will give the keynote address. Jayant Menon, Chief Economist at the Asian Development Bank as well as professors from Waseda University itself but also from Nanyang Technological University, the University of Hawaii, the University of California - Berkeley and the University of Virginia, will take part in this important discussion.
