17 September 2018 - Nagaoka University of Technology (Japan), a member institution of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), will host a 'kick-off' meeting on 5 October 2018 of the UNESCO Chair on Engineering Education for Sustainable Development established by the university within the framework of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme. Such Chairs Programme, involves over 700 institutions in 116 countries and promotes international inter-university cooperation and networking to enhance institutional capacities through knowledge sharing and collaborative work.
This institution decided to create the GIGAKU SDG Institute programme, aimed to build educational systems to cultivate high quality engineers based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, strengthening the cultivation of creative human resources, improving the future of engineering education, enhancing science, technology and innovation, and promoting as well international scientific collaboration for sustainable development. The university looks forward to enhancing the cooperation with domestic and overseas universities.
For the so-called 'kick-off' meeting, the keynote speaker will be Rovani Sigamoney, Assistant Programme Specialist of the UNESCO Section for Innovation and Capacity Building in Science and Engineering. The President of Nagaoka University of Technology, Dr. Nobuhiko Azuma, will welcome the participants and Mitsuhiro Ikehara, Deputy Director-General for International Affairs of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan will also speak during the event.
