The Secretary-General met President Barack Obama of the United States today.

They welcomed the positive progress made on the sustainable development agenda and underlined the need to translate the 17 goals into concrete actions.

They discussed United Nations peace operations and noted the important pledges that several countries have made to strengthen UN peacekeeping capacities. 

The Secretary-General and President Obama also discussed the steps that need to be taken in the coming months with regard to climate change and the vital importance of that topic.

The Secretary-General underlined the need for international players to agree on a common strategy to bring the terrible situation in Syria to an end. He also expressed his deep concern about the growing number of civilians killed in Yemen, especially from air strikes.

The two leaders also discussed the situations in Ukraine and Libya.
