Today, the Secretary-General met with acting Foreign Minister Shin Kak-soo, who is attending the 65th General Assembly as the chief representative of the Republic of Korea.
They discussed various global agendas including the Millennium Development Goals, G-20, HIV/AIDS and peacekeeping operations. As regards to the outcome of the MDGs Summit, the Secretary-General expressed hopes that agreements reached during the Summit will be duly reflected in the “Development” agenda of the upcoming G-20 Summit scheduled for November in Seoul. The Secretary-General also expressed his appreciation for the active contributions by the Government of the Republic of Korea in the work of the UN, including its increasing participation in UN Peacekeeping Operations and development assistance.
They also discussed issues related to the Korean Peninsula.
