The Secretary-General met with Mr. Ali Osman Mohamed Taha of Sudan, today.

In a cordial and candid exchange, they discussed the challenges facing the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, and notably the referenda to be held on 9 January 2011. They both agreed on the need for a fair and credible poll, on the due date, free from intimidation and violence.

They also discussed the situation in Darfur, and the prospects of the Doha talks yielding a comprehensive peace agreement for Darfur.
