Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with H.E. Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, in the margins of the 65th General Assembly

Today, the Secretary-General met with Mrs. Persad-Bissessar, who became the first woman Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago on 26 May 2010. They followed-up on several points that they had discussed during their previous meeting in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Among others, they spoke of the importance of progress on the Millennium Development Goals, climate change, women's issues, the fight against organized crime and small arms proliferation, not just for Trinidad and Tobago, but for the entire Caribbean region. The importance of the Caribbean Community's engagement in Haiti was also stressed.
