Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Alain Aimé Nyamitwe, Minister of External Relations and International Cooperation of the Republic of Burundi
The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Alain Aimé Nyamitwe, Minister of External Relations and International Cooperation of the Republic of Burundi.
The Secretary-General conveyed his concerns over the situation in Burundi. The Secretary-General stressed the importance of respecting the Arusha Agreement. The Minister assured the Secretary-General of the Government’s commitment to the implementation of the Arusha Agreement and dialogue.
The Secretary-General highlighted that the United Nations and its humanitarian partners continue to scale up their operations to support the populations. The Secretary-General urged the Government to do everything necessary to protect the lives and rights of all Burundians, regardless of their political affiliation, and fight impunity.

Le Secrétaire général a rencontré aujourd''hui S.E. Monsieur Alain Aimé Nyamitwe, Ministre des Relations extérieures et de la Coopération internationale de la République du Burundi.
Le Secrétaire général a fait part de ses préoccupations concernant la situation au Burundi.  Le Secrétaire général a souligné l''importance de respecter l''Accord d''Arusha. Le Ministre a assuré le Secrétaire général de l''engagement du Gouvernement en faveur de la mise en œuvre de l''Accord d’Arusha et du dialogue. 
Le Secrétaire général a souligné que les Nations unies et ses partenaires humanitaires continuent d’intensifier leurs opérations afin de soutenir la population burundaise. Le Secrétaire général a appelé le Gouvernement à tout mettre en oeuvre afin de protéger la vie et les droits de tous les Burundais, quelle que soit leur affiliation politique, et de lutter contre l''impunité.
