The Secretary-General met with President Marcus Stephen of Nauru today.

They discussed ways to further strengthen UN-Nauru cooperation as well as UN-Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) cooperation.

The Secretary-General said the Pacific Islands Forum Summit provided a good opportunity to discuss mutual concerns and greater cooperation.

The Secretary-General shared with the President his priorities for his second term as well as progress on the Millennium Development Goals.

They also discussed climate change, sustainable development and women's empowerment.

They exchanged views on challenges facing the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States, especially climate change, and ways in which the UN could support their efforts.
