Kuwait, 2 August 2021– The President of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Volkan Bozkır, has completed his official visit to Kuwait, the final trip planned for his term.
Upon arrival on 31st July, the President of the General Assembly was welcomed by H.E. Nasser Al-Hayn, Assistant Minister for International Organizations and H.E. Mansour Ayyad Alotaibi, Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the United Nations.
On 1st August, President Bozkır was received by H.E. Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, Prime Minister of Kuwait. The President applauded Kuwait’s successful mediation efforts, its constructive role in international organizations, and its humanitarian work to meet the needs of the most vulnerable people we serve.
Thereafter, the President met with H.E. Marzouq Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Kuwait National Assembly. Their discussion focused on the power of parliaments to create change, particularly with regard to COVID-19 recovery efforts including the equal access to Vaccines for All.
President Bozkır then met with H.E. Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Muhammad Al Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait. Their in-depth discussions ranged from regional developments, global efforts required to advance COVID-19 recovery, vaccine equity, as well as preparations for the upcoming High-Level Week of the 76th session of the General Assembly.
The President also visited UN House where he was briefed by Mr. Tarek el Sheikh, Resident Coordinator for Kuwait, and the United Nations Country Team in Kuwait. He applauded the team’s efforts in advancing public-private partnerships to support the critical work of the United Nations, and the strong cooperation between the United Nations and the State of Kuwait.
President Bozkir also toured Kuwait Tower and visited the Grand Mosque of Kuwait.
The President of the General Assembly departs Kuwait on 2nd August.
