Statement by H.E. Volkan Bozkir, President of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly

10 December 2020

On behalf of the General Assembly, I would like to thank His Excellency Collen Vixen Kelapile, Permanent Representative of Botswana to the United Nations and Chair of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee, Fourth Committee, members of the bureau, as well as delegates for a job well done.

The General Assembly has thus concluded its consideration of all the reports of the Special Political and Decolonization Committee before it for this meeting.

I look forward to another round of productive discussions of the Committee, during the resumed part of the 75th session, to advance the work of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations. Following a year in which no report was agreed upon, during the 74th session, Member States demonstrated their solidarity and strong will to support peacekeepers on the ground by producing a substantive report. I count on your continued spirit of compromise and constructive engagement to progress this important agenda as well.

I once again express my appreciation to your dedication to the crucial work of the Fourth Committee and thank you for your efforts during the main part of the General Assembly`s 75th session.
