GA MEETS ON MODALITIES OF THE INTERNATIONAL MIGRATION REVIEW FORUM

Member States are holding intergovernmental consultations to determine the precise modalities and organizational aspects of the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF).

The first IMRF is scheduled to take place in 2022 following the adoption of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, in December 2018.

President María Fernanda Espinosa sent a letter to Member States on the informal intergovernmental consultation in regard with the zero draft document: “Format and the organizational aspects of the international migration review forum”,

The co-facilitators to the consultations are the Ambassador of Bangladesh, H.E.  Masud bin Momen, and the Permanent Representative of Spain, H.E. Agustín Santos Maraver.

Member States will discuss how to strengthen the overall effectiveness and the consistency of the follow-up measures and later review its implementation progress among other topics.

PGA TO TAKE PART IN EVENT ON WOMEN WITH DISABILITIES IN POLITICAL AND PUBLIC LEADERSHIP

The PGA is returning to New York this afternoon after taking part in the 108th International Labour Conference, in Geneva.

Ms. Espinosa also met several international leaders to discuss cooperation with the UN and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda of sustainable development.

Tomorrow, she will participate in a luncheon on Disability-Inclusive Development.

The President will also speak at the High-Level Meeting on Women with Disabilities in Political and Public Leadership: Towards Beijing + 25, which will take place at UN Women, on Wednesday afternoon.

Around 15 percent of the world’s population, or 1 billion people, live with disabilities.  The World Health Organization says that this figure is increasing through population growth.

The rights of people with disabilities is one of the PGA’s seven priorities for this current session.

This is all for today. Do you have any questions?
