The President of the UN General Assembly, H.E. Ms Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces, met with the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, H.E. Ms Gabriela Cuevas Barron, on the margins of the 2019 Annual Parliamentary Hearing at the United Nations, “Emerging challenges to multilateralism: A parliamentary response”. They exchanged views on the need to engage parliaments in the debate on how to strengthen a rules-based multilateral system, which is the focus of this year’s Hearing. They also agreed to work together to further promote gender equality and participate in initiatives for the advancement of the rights of women.
