Around the world, governments and partners are working to strengthen women’s participation and leadership in justice and security institutions as part of their efforts to prevent conflict and sustain peace. To capture progress, highlight good practices, and close critical data gaps, the United Nations, in collaboration with DCAF - Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance, is launching the Portal on Women in Justice and Securitya global platform to support evidence-based action.

The Portal is designed to support Member States, national institutions, civil society and other stakeholders by:

  • Providing a centralized, accessible global repository of data on women’s participation across justice and security institutions
  • Offering credible information on good practices to overcome barriers and advance women’s inclusion
  • Supporting evidence-based analysis, policymaking, reforms, and institutional change toward inclusive, accountable and gender-responsive justice and security systems
  • Assisting countries to meet gender parity targets in police and corrections contributions to UN peace operations
  • Informing evidence-based advocacy for more targeted programming and strategic resource allocation
  • Increasing visibility of women’s roles, leadership, and contributions across the justice and security sectors

How Member States can engage

The Secretariat invites all Member States to contribute to the United Nations Portal on Women in Justice and Security by completing the online survey by 30 June 2026.  An individualized link for the online submission of responses will be sent to each Permanent Mission.

If it is not possible to submit responses via the online platform, Member States may submit responses in Word format by email. The survey in Word format has also been circulated via Note Verbale to all UN Member States and is now available for download in English. The French and Spanish versions will be available for download on this webpage on 31 March 2026.

Only official government representatives from UN Member States are invited to submit responses. Submissions from non-governmental individuals or organizations will not be accepted.
