Palestine question/Subcommittee I approves WG’s report on implementation – Ad Hoc Cttee – Press release

SUBCOMMITTEE APPROVES WORKING GROUP'S REPORT ON IMPLEMENTATION

Reconvening last night (17 November) in open meeting at 8:15 p.m., Subcommittee 1 first gave consideration to a working paper prepared by the Working Group on the Special International Regime of the City of Jerusalem.

The Subcommittee discussed the question as to whether the City of Jerusalem should be placed under the authority of the Trusteeship Council of the Security Council or of a Special Commission elected by the General Assembly.  It was agreed to postpone a decision until the next meeting in order to allow the delegates more time to study the question.

The Subcommittee then passed to the draft Revised Description of the Boundaries of the Arab and Jewish States which it is proposed to include in the Subcommittee’s Report to the Ad Hoc Committee.

The United States Delegation reserved its position with regard to the proposed boundaries of the Negev, but was not yet prepared to submit an alternative proposal. This part of the Report was left over for further discussion.  The rest of the Report was approved.

Finally, the Subcommittee took up and approved the Report of the Working Group on Implementation.

The Jewish Agency submitted three amendments on the plan of evacuation of the British forces, on immigration, on land regulations and on the setting up of the Provisional Councils, which will be discussed at the next meeting.

The Sub-Committee adjourned at 11:55 p.m. to resume today at 11:00 a.m.
