SECRETARY-GENERAL MEETS WITH PRESIDENT MUBARAK OF EGYPT
IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
The following statement was issued today by a spokesman for the Secretary-General:
Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali met with President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak of Egypt in Washington, D.C., this afternoon. During the meeting, which lasted for approximately 45 minutes, they conducted a general review of the situation in the Middle East, including Iraq, Libya and the various aspects of the peace process, in particular the Palestinian situation as it evolves. They also discussed the situation in Burundi.
The Secretary-General thanked Egypt for continuing to contribute troops to United Nations peace-keeping operations. He renewed the invitation to President Mubarak to attend the special commemorative meeting of the General Assembly to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Organization in October.
