LETTER DATED 24 MAY 1948 FROM THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE JEWISH AGENCY FOR PALESTINE ADDRESSED TO THE SECRETARY-GENERAL TRANSMITTING A TELEGRAM FROM FOREIGN MINISTER OF THE PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT OF ISRAEL

I have the honour to communicate for the information of the Security Council the text of a telegram which I have received from Mr. Moshe Shertok, Foreign Minister of the Provisional Government of Israel, in reply to a
telegram wherein I transmitted the Resolution adopted by the Security Council on May 22, 1948:
Tel Aviv 24 May
"PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT DECIDED YESTERDAY ORDER BE ISSUED CEASEFIRE ALL FRONTS TONIGHT TWENTY HOURS SUMMERTIME ISRAEL CORRESPONDING MIDDAY NEW YORK PROVIDED OTHER SIDE ACTS LIKEWISE STOP DECISION PUBLISHED IMMEDIATELY ON ADOPTION AND THIS MORNING COMMUNICATED TRUCE COMMISSION JERUSALEM STOP ORDER CEASEFIRE ABOVE TIME AND NOT RESTART FIRING UNLESS OTHER SIDE CONTINUES ISSUED TO ALL OUR COMMANDERS AND PARTICULARLY SCRUPULOUS OBSERVANCE URGED IN JERUSALEM."
