Paraphrase of cable of 31 March concerning

the protection of Government property

Mr. Azcarate reports a conversation on March 29 with the High Commissioner, in the course of which the High Commissioner raised for the second time the question of measures to preserve and protect the valuable furniture and other properties in Government House. The High Commissioner suggested that without adequate protection Government House could be located in one night by Arabs from the neighbouring villages. Unless it was possible to provide effective protection, he suggested that the furniture be removed to a safe place before the termination of the Mandate. Mr. Azcarate is personally in favour of this proposal provided that the place is approved by the Commission.
