Truce violations, request for SecCo meeting – Letter from Egypt

LETTER FROM THE PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF EGYPT

TO THE UNITED NATIONS DATED 23 OCTOBER ADDRESSED TO THE

SECRETARY-GENERAL CONCERNING ALLEGED VIOLATION OF TRUCE

BY JEWISH FORCES AND REQUESTING EMERGENCY MEETING

OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL

Paris, 23 October 1948

I am informed by my Government that the Zionist forces in Palestine are constantly and increasingly violating the Truce and defying the cease-fire orders given by the Security Council.  This is being done to such an extend as to endanger the safety of our troops and to render it imminently inevitable for them to take the necessary counter-measures, unless the Security Council acts in proper time.

My Government, therefore, request that an emergency meeting of the Security Council be called immediately to consider these serious developments.

(Signed)  M. FAWZI
Representative of Egypt to
The Security Council
