CHIEF OF STAFF AND IRAQI COMMANDER
CONFER ON CEASE-FIRE AGREEMENT
The Chief of Staff for truce supervision Brig. General William E. Riley met today (10 December) in Nablus with commanding General Norel Dine of the Iraqi Army. Upon his return to Haifa headquarters, General Riley expressed satisfaction at the results of the interview during which the truce and armistice effecting the Iraqi front were discussed.
The local cease-fire which had been in effect since 6 December was also mentioned during the discussion, General Riley said. This cease-fire signed by Iraqi and Israeli staff officers under UN auspices applies to a section of the front 45 kilometers long from a point eastward of Hadera to a point eastward of Petha Tikva.
Church services were held yesterday morning (9 December) in Jerusalem for Sergeant Lester Welling, United States Army, of Hampton, Virginia and Corporal Charles F. Smith, United States Air Force of Wilmetee, Illinois who died on 7 December in a jeep accident near Jerusalem.
It is planned that the bodies will be transported by United Nations aircraft to Athens, thence by the military Air Transport Service to the United States under the escort of two U.S. noncommissioned officers.
