Israeli-Palestinian peace process – Settlements (August 5, 2013)
France deplores the inclusion of a large number of settlements on the list of communities eligible for priority aid, adopted on August 4 by the Israeli government. That figure has increased since the last such list was published in 2009, and includes isolated settlements on the West Bank that are particularly likely to undermine a future peace process.
France emphasizes that settlements are illegal under international law and represent a major obstacle to the two-state solution.
France supports the current revival of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and asks the parties to refrain from any gesture that could harm this process.
