Federal Minister Fischer condemns terrorist attack in Tel Aviv On 26 February in Cologne, Federal Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer issued the following statement on the previous day's terrorist attack at a nightclub in Tel Aviv: "The Federal Government utterly condemns yesterday's brutal terrorist attack in Tel Aviv in which several people were killed. Our thoughts are with the victims' families; we wish the numerous people who were injured a speedy and full recovery. The aim of those who committed and masterminded this attack was to nip in the bud the hope for a peaceful future for Palestinians and Israelis. Instead of negotiations and reconciliation, they promote fanaticism, suffering and murder. This approach must not be allowed to succeed. A quick and relentless effort must be undertaken to track down and punish those who are behind this crime. The Palestinian leadership must continue to work energetically to prevent violence and terror, an effort for which it deserves all our support. At this critical time, all parties are called upon to act with circumspection. This attack must not be allowed to set back the efforts to renew the peace process." published: 26.02.2005 |
