French Foreign Minister Fabius welcomes Israeli-Palestinian agreement to resume talks – French MoFEA press release/Non-UN document

Middle East Peace Process

Statement by Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius After a Conversation With U.S. Sec. of State John Kerry

Paris, July 19, 2013.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has informed me of the terms of an agreement in principle that he just concluded with a view to re-starting Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. I told him that we welcome this prospect. I applaud the sense of responsibility demonstrated by the Israeli and Palestinian authorities.

France urges the parties to effectively carry out these negotiations by creating a climate of dialogue and trust in order to reach an agreement. It is in everyone´s interest to bring an end to the conflict through the creation of a viable and sovereign Palestinian state living in peace and security alongside Israel.

Together with its European partners, France will spare no effort to facilitate negotiations and to participate, when the time comes, in implementing a peace agreement.
