Palestinian Foreign Minister thanks Malta for its continuous support
Foreign Minister George Vella hosted his Palestinian counterpart Riyad Malki this morning at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. After a short tete-a-tete, both Ministers conducted official talks aimed at strengthening to cooperation between the two. Minister Vella said that Malta continues to support peace efforts for the Middle East and will do all it can for Palestinians to enjoy their full rights.
Minister Malki appreciated the remarks by Foreign Minister Vella and said that he came to Malta to show appreciation and thank the government and its people for continuously supporting the Palestinian struggle. The Palestinian Foreign Minister also thanked Malta for voting in favour of Palestinians in international institutions.
The Palestinian Foreign Minister is on a two day visit to Malta holding various high level meetings and a public dialogue.
In a press conference held after the meeting both Ministers mentioned the importance of continuous dialogue between Malta and Palestine, hence they announced a joint commission to keep discussions on going. The aim of this joint commission is to keep in touch and discuss issues of cooperation that is already strong between Malta and Palestine. Minister Vella also announced that Prime Minister Joseph Muscat is expected to visit Palestine in October as he stressed the importance of maintaining contact with the Palestians.
Minister George Vella reiterated that Malta can play an important role in international institutions such as the EU. “Malta’s voice counts” replied Minister Malki as he stressed upon the importance and decisive role our country can play within EU structures and other international institutions.
