Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the formation of the new Palestinian cabinet

1. The Government of Japan welcomes the formation of the new Palestinian cabinet headed by Dr. Rami Hamdallah, the new Prime Minister.

2. The Government of Japan supports the two-state solution, and has backed up strongly the Palestinians’ efforts for building a future independent and viable state. The Government of Japan hopes that the new cabinet will show the further leadership.

3. The Government of Japan expresses its respect for the contributions to the Palestinian state-building by the former Prime Minister Dr. Salam Fayyad, and will continue to closely cooperate with the new cabinet led by the Prime Minister Dr. Rami Hamdallah.
