Arab League Secretary-General hails UAE aid to Palestinian people – LAS press release/Non-UN document (excerpts)


Secretary General Hails Emirati Aids to Palestinian People (27-7-2005) 

Secretary General Amre Moussa of the Arab League of States hailed the decision issued by Shaikh Khalifa Ben Zayed Al Nhayan of UAE to allocate an amount of $100 million for financing a housing compound on the debris of the Israeli settlements following the withdrawal of the Israeli forces from the Gaza strip.

Secretary General Moussa expressed his deepest appreciation of the subject vital and humanitarian project which is expected to provide accommodation for 30-40 thousand Palestinian citizens from Gaza. Financed by the UAE, the project will be carried out in coordination with the UNROA and the Palestinian authority.

Secretary General Moussa considered the UAE's orientation to undertake the subject project as an example to be followed in providing the contributions needed for supporting the Palestinian people and assisting the Palestinian authority in reconstructing the Gaza strip throughout the upcoming period.

It is worth mentioning that the subject project is the fourth of its kind that the UAE presents to Palestinian people in the bank and the strip after Shaikh Zayed city in Gaza, reconstruction of Jenin camp, and the establishment of the UAE housing compound at the Egyptian-Palestinian borders.
