Middle East: disappointment and concern over Israeli decision to build new settlements in occupied territories
Roma 11 January 2014
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep disappointment and concern over the Israeli government’s decision to go ahead with the construction of new housing in the Occupied Territories.
In accordance with the European Union’s stance on the illegality of expansion of the settlements, in keeping with international law, the foreign ministry underscored that the Israeli government’s decision complicated pursuance of a two-State solution, and that at this stage it was necessary to refrain from undertakings that could damage the negotiations under way, which offer the only possibility to achieve just and lasting peace.
