Secretary General welcomes Portuguese parliament resolution for recognition of Palestinian state

The Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Iyad Amin Madani, praised the Portuguese Parliament’s adoption of a resolution calling on the government to recognise the State of Palestine. Madani considered the resolution a significant step consistent with the United Nations’ resolutions which reiterate the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people, including the sovereign independent State of Palestine on the borders of June 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital.
The Secretary General expressed his hope of the Portuguese government to recognise the State of Palestinian, pointing out that it would support the legitimate Palestinian rights and maximise the potential to bring peace that is based on the two-state solution.
