UN MEDIATION MISSION'S HEADQUARTERS

MOVED FROM HAIFA TO JERUSALEM

(The following was received at UN Headquarters from the Press Officer

with the UN Conciliation Commission for Palestine, Jerusalem.)

The headquarters of the United Nations Mediation Mission in Palestine were transferred yesterday (25 May) from Haifa to Jerusalem, almost exactly one year after having been established by the late Count Folke Bernadotte.

As of today, the Mediation Mission's headquarters and the offices of the Chief of Staff will be situated at Government House in the neutralized area between the Arab and Jewish lines of Jerusalem, sharing space in the rambling home of the former British High Commissioner with the Conciliation Commission which established its headquarters here four months ago.

The mixed Armistice Commission, which supervises the terms of the armistice concluded between Israel and the Kingdom of Jordan, is also centered at Government House, which thus now becomes the focal point of the United Nations' activities in Palestine.
