Federica Mogherini met with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
Today, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini met Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu in the margins of the 70th United Nations General Assembly, following an earlier meeting of the Quartet.
They exchanged views on the situation in the region, on current tensions in the Holy Places in Jerusalem, and in particular on the need to revive the political track for the Middle East Peace Process.
The HRVP referred to yesterday's Quartet meeting and discussed possible ways to guarantee a follow up to the Quartet statement.
Federica Mogherini stressed the need to implement steps on the ground consistent with prior agreements, to reverse current negative trends in Gaza and the West Bank, and to work on the basis of the Arab Peace Initiative, as stated also by the Quartet.
They both reiterated their support to the prospect of the Two State solution, with a Palestinian State living side by side with the Israeli State.
