Malaysia donates US$100,000 to UNRWA

Malaysia has made a US$ 100,000 donation to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). This contribution to UNRWA’s General Fund will support the Agency’s essential services to Palestine refugees in its five areas of operation.

Welcoming the donation, Filippo Grandi, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, said: “I congratulate Malaysia on their decision and efforts to increase the contribution to our Agency. Economic difficulties, in addition to a volatile political environment in the region make this gesture even more significant as these factors deeply affect Palestine refugees. The contribution from Malaysia is a symbol that the issue of Palestine refugees is of global concern, beyond the region in which they live.”

Malaysia has provided support for the Palestinian people in various ways in the past, including donating US$ 250,000 for emergency operations in Gaza in 2009. Furthermore, it has consistently expressed its support for a just resolution to the Palestinian problem.
