SecCo list of items – Letter from Tunisia

LETTER DATED 13 SEPTEMBER 1996 FROM THE PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE

OF TUNISIA TO THE UNITED NATIONS ADDRESSED TO THE PRESIDENT OF

THE SECURITY COUNCIL

I have the honour to refer to the note dated 30 July 1996 from the President of the Security Council concerning the simplification of the list of matters of which the Council is seized (S/1996/603).

In this connection, I should like to inform you that my Government is opposed to the automatic deletion of matters of which the Council is seized and affirms its commitment to maintaining the principle of prior consultations between the Council and the States concerned.

Accordingly, my Government would like to see the following items from the annex to the President's note of 30 July 1996 (S/1996/603) retained on the list of matters of which the Council is seized:  item 39, entitled "Letter dated 1 October 1985 from the Permanent Representative of Tunisia to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council", and item 45, entitled "Letter dated 19 April 1988 from the Permanent Representative of Tunisia to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council".

I should be grateful if you would have this letter circulated as a document of the Security Council.

(Signed) Slaheddine ABDELLAH

Permanent Representative
