ANNEX

Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Yemen

(issued at Sana on 1 October 1985)

The Government of the Yemen Arab Republic, having received news of the attack on Tunis, hereby expresses its strong disapproval and condemnation of these barbaric and savage actions by the Zionist entity against Arab territory. The Government of the Yemen Arab Republic considers this criminal action to be a flagrant attack on a sisterly Arab country, and it is at the same time a clear indication of the hostile intentions of the Zionist entity. This hostile entity, which was nurtured by imperialism and zionism, constitutes merely a source of disturbance to security and stability in the region.

The international community demands a halt to Israel's actions, and the imposition of boycott and deterrent sanctions against it, in implementation of resolutions adopted by the United Nations and other international organizations, since these actions constitute a clear challenge to the operation of the international community, the Charter of the United Nations and its resolutions.

The Yemen Arab Republic also considers that this iniquitous attack on the headquarters of the Palestine Liberation Organization in a sisterly Arab country makes it essential that the Arab States should stand together to confront the attack, since it is not only one Arab country which is threatened but all Arab territories which are being designated as targets for the entity's aggressive actions and expansionist intentions.

The Yemen Arab Republic declares that it will stand by the sisterly country of Tunisia in defending its national sovereignty and preserving its freedom and territorial integrity. It will also stand by the Palestine Liberation Organization, the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, and by the Palestinian revolution in its just struggle for restoration of all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
