Mideast situation/Palestine question – Letter from Malaysia

Letter dated 2 October 2000 from the Permanent Representative

of Malaysia to the United Nations addressed to

the President of the Security Council

I have the honour to write to you in my capacity as Chairman of the Islamic Group at the United Nations and to inform you that the Group convened an urgent meeting today to consider the recent Israeli aggression against Al-Haram Al-Sharif and the attacks by Israeli security forces against Palestinian civilians.

The Islamic Group expressed grave concern over this critical turn of events and authorized me to convey to you its request for an emergency meeting of the Security Council to consider the deteriorating situation.

I would be grateful if you would kindly arrange for this letter to be circulated as a document of the Security Council.

(Signed) Hasmy Agam

Ambassador

Permanent Representative of Malaysia to the United Nations

Chairman of the Islamic Group
