Letter dated 4 October 1985 from the Permanent Representative of

Yemen to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General

I have the honour to transmit herewith the statement made by His Excellency Mr. Abdulkarim Al-Eryani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs at the Yemen Arab Republic, on behalf of the Heads of Delegation and the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the member countries of the Organization of the Islamic Conference participating in the fortieth session of the General Assembly in New York, regarding the Israeli raid on the Tunisian capital.

I should be gratetul if Your Excellency would arrange for this statement to be circulated as a document of the General Assembly, under agenda items 33 and 38, and of the Security Council.

ANNEX

Statement made by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Yemen,

on behalf of the Heads of Delegation and the Ministers for Foreign Affairs

of the member countries of the Organization of the Islamic Conference

participating in the fortieth session of the General Assembly in New York

The Heads of Delegation, Ministers for Foreign Affairs and the representative of the Organization of the Islamic Conference member countries participating in the fortieth session of the United Nations General Assembly:

Strongly condemn the barbaric terrorist attack perpetrated by Israel on 1 October 1985 against the territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty of Tunisia by bombing without provocation exclusively civilian-inhabited area. near the capital, causing heavy losses of civilian lives among Tunisians and Palestinians and much destruction of property;

Categorically reject the statement issued by the United States administration justifying this crime, which defies all norms of international law, as an act of self-defence;

Reaffirm their unswerving solidarity with the Palestinian nation and the Palestine Liberation Organization, the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people as recognized by the United Nations and the Organization of the Islamic Conference, during this grave moment of grief;

Expresses their condolences to the families of the Tunisian and Palestinian victims of this heinous Israeli crime;

Expresses their deep distress at the heavy loss of life and damage to property suffered by the Tunisian and Palestinian people due to this blatant act of State terrorism;

Convey their sympathy and expression of solidarity to the Government and people of Tunisia at this challenging time;

Call upon the international community to lend its support to Tunisia in the face of this barbaric Israeli aggression and to its legitimate right to a just and equitable compensation.
