Letter dated 20 November 1985 from the Permanent Representative of Oman

to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General

I have the honour to enclose herewith a letter written at Muscat on 16 November 1985 and addressed to you by His Excellency Mr. Yousef bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, in his capacity as President of the sixth session of the Ministerial Council of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), enclosing the Final Communiqué adopted by the sixth session of the GCC Supreme Council, held in the Sultanate of Oman from 3 to 6 November 1985.

I request you to have the letter and the Final Communiqué appended thereto circulated as a document of the United Nations General Assembly, under agenda items 26, 33, 38, 46, 72, 132, 133 and 146 of its fortieth session and of the Security Council.

I have the honour, in my capacity as President of the Ministerial Council at the sixth session of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), to enclose herewith the Final Communiqué adopted by the sixth session of the GCC Supreme Council, held in the Sultanate of Oman from 19 to 22 Safar A.H. 1406, corresponding to 3 to 6 November A.D. 1985.

I request you to have this letter and the Final Communiqué appended thereto circulated as a document of the United Nations General Assembly and of the Security Council.

Final Communiqué of the sixth session of the Supreme Council

of the Gulf Co-operation Council

Sultanate of Oman, 19-22 Safar A.H. 1406, corresponding to

3-6 November A.D. 1985

The Supreme Council of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) held its sixth session in the Sultanate of Oman from 19 to 22 Safar A.H. 1406, corresponding to 3 to 6 November A.D. 1985, at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sultan of Oman. The meeting was attended by:

His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahayan, Head of State of the United Arab Emirates;

His Highness Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Amir of the State of Bahrain;

His Majesty King Fahd ibn Abd al-Aziz Al Baud, King of Saudi Arabia;

His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sultan of Oman;

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar;

His Highness Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait.

At the level, the Council discussed the question of Palestine and the stages through which it had passed.  It affirmed its continuing support and backing for the Palestine Liberation Organization as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.  The Council condemned the Zionist aggression against Tunisia and against the headquarters of the Palestine Liberation Organization located there, and it affirms its support for and solidarity with the fraternal Republic of Tunisia and the Palestine Liberation Organization.

The Council affirms its continuing support for the unity of fraternal Lebanon and for the preservation of its stability, its independence and its national sovereignty over its own soil.
