Palestine question – Letter from Syria

LETTER DATED 2 MARCH 2000 FROM THE PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE

OF THE SYRIAN ARAB REPUBLIC TO THE UNITED NATIONS ADDRESSED

TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL

I have the honour to refer to the summary statement of 15 February 2000 on matters of which the Security Council is seized and on the stage reached in their consideration (S/2000/40).

On instructions from my Government, I have the honour to inform you in this regard that the Syrian Arab Republic requests the retention of the following items listed in paragraph 10 of the summary statement:

1. The Palestine question.

17. The Middle East problem, including the Palestinian question.

20. The question of the exercise by the Palestinian people of its inalienable rights.

29. Letter dated 4 February 1986 from the Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/17787).

I take this opportunity to reaffirm the position of the Syrian Arab Republic as set forth in its letter dated 9 February 1998 addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/1998/111, annex ).

I should be grateful if you would have this letter circulated as a document of the Security Council.
