12th Meeting (AM)

PALESTINIAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE HEARS STATEMENTS BY GREECE, UKRAINE

CORRECTION

In Press Release GA/PAL/16 of 13 April, the second and fifth paragraphs

on page 3, summarizing a statement by V.N. Martynenko (Ukraine), should read

 as follows:

     Second Paragraph

He referred to the report to the 25th Congress of the Communist Party of

the Soviet Union by Leonid Brezhnev, General Secretary of the Party's Central

Committee who stated:  "As the co-Chairman of the Geneva Conference, the USSR

is prepared to co-operate in all efforts to reach an effective settlement of

the conflict.  We are prepared to participate in international guarantees of

the security and inviolability of the frontiers of all Middle East countries

either in the United Nations framework or on some other basis.  Since we are

on the subject, it is our opinion, that Britain and France, too, could

participate in such guarantees along with the USSR and the United States. This

would only benefit matters."  He hoped this position of the USSR would be

reflected in the Committee's recommendations.

     Fifth Paragraph

Referring to a proposal to seek legal advice from the World Court on

relevant Israeli actions since 1948, he said his delegation had reservations

about the objectivity of the Court's advisory opinions.  Beyond this and

some other reservations, he concluded, his delegation found the draft

recommendations before the Committee acceptable.
