Letter dated 28 March 2001 from the Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the

Permanent Mission of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations

addressed to the President of the Security Council

I refer to the summary statement of 19 March 2001 on matters of which the Security Council is seized and on the stage reached in their consideration (S/2001/15).

On instructions from my Government, I have the honour to inform you that the Syrian Arab Republic requests retention of the following items listed in paragraph 8 of the document in question:

1. The Palestine question.

16. The Middle East problem, including the Palestine question.

19. The question of the exercise by the Palestinian people of its inalienable rights.

27. Letter dated 4 February 1986 from the Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/17787).

I take this opportunity to reaffirm the position of the Syrian Arab Republic as stated in the letter dated 9 February 1998 addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/1998/111, annex).

I should be grateful if you would have this letter circulated as a document of the Security Council.
