The Secretary-General met today with Prime Minister Josaia V. Bainimarama of the Republic of Fiji. He congratulated him on his recent election as Prime Minister and welcomed the peaceful conduct of the electoral process. These elections were beneficial for the country’s future as well as for the whole region. The United Nations would continue to work with leaders of the Pacific.

The Secretary-General thanked Fiji for its contributions to UN peacekeeping.

They discussed the outcome of the SIDS conference. The Secretary-General expressed his expectations for 2015, including the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals and reaching a universal and meaningful climate agreement.
