Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Macky Sall, President of the Republic of Senegal, in the margins of the 67th General Assembly

The Secretary-General met today with the President of the Republic of Senegal, H.E. Mr. Macky Sall. 

They discussed the long-running conflict in the southern Casamance region of Senegal, as well as the latest developments regarding the prosecution of former Chadian Head of State Hissennè Habré.

The Secretary-General and President Sall exchanged views on the situation in Guinea-Bissau, Mali and the Sahel region and on ways for the international community to support the region in addressing these serious crises.

They discussed the importance of international partnerships to try to alleviate the problems resulting from global climate change, as well as drought in the Sahel.
