Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with His Excellency Mr. Wen Jiabao, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China on the margins of the 65th General Assembly

The Secretary-General met with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, today, 22 September.

They discussed progress on the MDGs, particularly in Africa, citing the importance for many countries of China's success in reducing poverty and other areas. They also exchanged views on the situation in the Korean Peninsula, stressing the need to revive

the six party talks in the interests of a nuclear weapon free Korean Peninsula. The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for China's contributions to various peacekeeping operations, and sought China's further support in Sudan, Liberia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Finally, they exchanged views on climate change and the upcoming "United Nations Climate Change Conference" in Cancun, 29 November - 10 December 2010.
