Readout of the meeting between the Secretary-General and H.E. Mr. Sergey Lavrov, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, on the margins of the 65th General Assembly

The Secretary-General met yesterday, 21 September 2010, with H.E. Mr. Sergey Lavrov, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Noting that they had already exchanged views on the Middle East in the preceding meeting of the Middle East Quartet, as well as at the meeting of the Quartet with the Foreign Ministers of the members of the League of Arab States' follow-up committee, the Secretary-General and FM Lavrov discussed a range of issues, including the situation in Afghanistan, Sudan, Kosovo and Kyrgyzstan.

The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for the support he and the United Nations system continue to receive from the Russian Federation.
