I send my warmest wishes as millions of Muslims around the world begin the holy month of Ramadan.   
 
This is a period of compassion and empathy… a time for reflection and learning… an opportunity to come together and uplift each other.  
 
As High Commissioner for Refugees, I began a practice that I proudly pursued as Secretary-General.  
 
Every Ramadan, I had the honor of visiting Muslim countries, fasting in solidarity and breaking bread with people.  
 
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic made that impossible, but I am happy to resume this tradition this year.  
 
In these times of tragedy and suffering, my thoughts and heart are with everyone facing conflict, displacement and fear.  
 
The Holy Quran teaches us that God created nations and tribes “so that we might know one another”.  
 
In this holy month and every day, let us take inspiration by working hand in hand for the safety, dignity and prosperity of all women and men.  
 
Let us learn from each other and, together, build a peaceful world.

MESSAGE VIDÉO DIFFUSÉ À L’OCCASION DU DÉBUT DU RAMADAN 
New York, le 31 mars 2022 
 
Je tiens à présenter mes vœux les plus chaleureux aux millions de musulmanes et de musulmans de par le monde qui entament le mois sacré du Ramadan.  
 
C’est une période de compassion et d’empathie... un temps de réflexion et d’instruction... une occasion de se rassembler et de s’élever mutuellement.  
 
Lorsque j’étais Haut-Commissaire pour les réfugiés, j’ai commencé une pratique que j’ai poursuivie avec fierté, une fois devenu Secrétaire général.  
 
À chaque Ramadan, j’avais l’honneur de visiter des pays musulmans, de jeûner par solidarité et de partager le pain avec les fidèles.  
 
Malheureusement, la pandémie de COVID-19 m’en a empêché, mais je suis heureux, cette année, de renouer avec cette tradition.  
 
En ces temps de tragédie et de souffrance, je suis de tout cœur aux côtés de toutes celles et tous ceux qui connaissent les conflits, les déplacements et la peur.  
 
Le Saint Coran nous enseigne que Dieu a créé les nations et les tribus « pour que nous nous connaissions entre nous ».  
 
En ce mois sacré et chaque jour, tirons inspiration de notre prochain en travaillant main dans la main pour la sécurité, la dignité et la prospérité de toutes les femmes et de tous les hommes.  
 
Apprenons les uns des autres et, ensemble, construisons un monde pacifique.

رسالة بالفيديو بمناسبة حلول شهر رمضان

  أبعث بأحر تمنياتي إلى ملايين المسلمين حول العالم بمناسبة حلول شهر رمضان الفضيل. 
  فهذه فترة الشفقة والرحمة ... وهي لحظة للتدبر والتعلم ... وفرصة للتكاتف والتعاضد. 
  لقد كنت وأنا أعمل مفوضا ساميا لشؤون اللاجئين بدأت ممارسة ما زلت أشعر بالفخر باتباعها كأمين عام للأمم المتحدة. 
  فقد كنت عند كل رمضان أتشرف بزيارة البلدان الإسلامية فأصوم تضامنا مع الناس وأفطر بإفطارهم. 
  ومع الأسف فقد جعلت جائحة كوفيد-19 ذلك الأمر مستحيلا، ولكنني سعيد بأن أستأنف هذه السُّنة هذا العام. 
  وفي هذه الظروف التي تطبعها المآسي والمعاناة، فإن فؤادي يفيض بالمواساة والدعاء لكل من يقاسون ويلات النزاعات والتشرد والخوف. 
  ولقد علمنا القرآن الكريم أن الله خلق الشعوب والقبائل ليتعارفوا. 
  فلنستلهم هذا الشهر الفضيل ولنتكاتف في أثنائه وفي سائر الأيام من أجل أن ينعم بالسلامة والكرامة والرخاء النساء والرجال كافة. 
  فليتعلم بعضُنا من بعض ونعمل معا على بناء عالم يسوده السلام.
